Sound Communities is funded by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, and is an extension of our Music for Change programme.

Sound Communities is building four communities of practice every year in parts of London, Luton, Essex and East Sussex, developing understanding and practice in early childhood music and communication. In each location, groups of 6-10 Nursery teachers meet every month.

Over the 3 years of the project (2018–21) we will offer both monthly CPD, sharing and reflection sessions as well as visits by Creative Futures music practitioners to participating settings.

We have also created a Sound Communities online resource for Early Years professionals and music leaders in partnership with The Communication Trust, which was launched in January 2020.
What is Sound Communities?
Watch our short video explaining more about the project, and hear directly from some of the Early Years practitioners who have already taken part and observed the impact it's had on children in their settings.
