Early Years CPD courses

Inclusive music: communication & connection

In this session we'll share our learning from our collaborations with NHS speech and language therapists and Early Years Practitioners.

You'll learn:

- How to make circle time accessible and fun for all children

- Child-led and responsive approaches to music that support children’s learning across the nursery

- How to use music to honour children's identities and interests

- Singing as communication

- Tools and techniques for deep interaction including non-verbally

Musical Play and Interaction

In this session we'll explore together questions such as:

- What does children’s musical play look like?

- How often does musical play get spotted in your setting?

We'll share some frameworks to help you observe children's play with singing, instruments and soundmakers, as well as to spot the musicality embedded in all their types of play across the nursery.

Through reflecting together on video examples, you'll learn how tuning in to children's musical play can offer new tools for engagement and interaction.

Music across the EYFS

In this full day session we'll introduce:

- How music is interwoven with the prime and specific areas of learning

- How music can help understand the unique child and nurture positive relationships

- What enabling environments for music look like

- What learning & development in music looks like

- The characteristics of effective learning in music

The course includes a mix of theory, reflection and discussion and practical activities, as well as troubleshooting and helpful hints and tips!

In person full day - £850

Sustainable Songs

In this practical session you'll learn how to play with songs and activities, so that rather than needing to learn 100 different songs, you'll have songs you can do 100 different ways (or more!).

During the session, you will:

Be introduced to key musical elements and “ingredients”
Explore how the characteristics of effective learning can inspire creative approaches to songs
Begin simple songwriting, designed to be accessible even for those with little or no confidence
Discover ways to encourage children to take the lead in singing and songwriting

You’ll leave the session feeling inspired, equipped with practical ideas, and confident!

In person 2.5 hours - £450

Refresh your practice!

This session will help you to take an inventory of your music provision and practice, and inspire you to set some goals - and of course we'll introduce some exciting ideas to set you on your way!

We'll offer a simple framework for reflection and offer some provocations around using music with:

- Loose parts and open-ended resources

- Dance

- Art and mark-making

- Stories

- Finding the music that your staff, children and families love and get everyone involved!

All profits from these training courses are used to subsidise our Early Years programmes in settings, and with families, in parts of London where children have least access to high quality music making provision.

A creative session using stories as a starting point for a musical journey that supports children’s reading, writing and language development through their imaginations and creative play.
